Emmanuel Tagoe

Emmanuel Tagoe, known as Gameboy, is a former IBO lightweight world champion whose long unbeaten run made him one of the most consistent Ghanaian fighters of his era.

Early life

He was born on 10 January 1989 in Accra. His professional career began inauspiciously with a loss on his debut in 2004, but he rebuilt patiently, stringing together a long winning streak that carried him toward a world title.

World champion

On 2 December 2016, at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra, he beat the former world champion Mzonke Fana by a shutout unanimous decision to win the IBO lightweight title. He held the belt until 2018, defending his hometown crown in front of Ghanaian crowds.

The Ryan Garcia fight

In April 2022 he stepped up to face the American star Ryan Garcia in the United States, losing a wide decision over twelve rounds in one of the biggest paydays of his career.

Record

He compiled a professional record of 32 wins from 34 fights, 15 by knockout, a mark of the durability and consistency that defined his career. Confident and outspoken, Gameboy remains one of the notable Ghanaian champions of the modern era.
